Welcome message from the temple president
My name is Rick Stambul and as the current President of West Los Angeles Buddhist Temple I extend you a warm welcome. Please search through our web site to find out who we are, what services and activities we offer, our current calendar of programs, copies of our monthly newspaper, the Bulletin, organizations within our Temple, features, links to other Buddhist sites, and photos you may find of interest. We are a Buddhist Temple following the Pure Land school of Mahayana Buddhism (Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-Ha) also known as Shin Buddhism. At the heart of the Shin Buddhist teaching lies a vision of true reality alive with wisdom and compassion working to bring all beings to the highest fulfillment of human life, enlightenment. Our temple was founded almost 60 years ago and we join together with 59 other Shin Buddhist temples throughout the continental United States all of whom are affiliated with our parent organization, Buddhist Churches of America.
We are a family oriented Sangha yet we gladly welcome members regardless of family or marital status. We offer a Dharma school program inviting students of all ages from preschool through high school, emphasizing a unique environment for social and religious growth focusing on Buddhist teachings of compassion, friendliness, and harmonious family life. Please join us not only for our Sunday services and other programs, but especially during the last weekend in July (usually) for our Obon Carnival where we join together both to honor the memory of friends and family who have passed away as well as in a celebration of life with street dancing (Obon Odori), music, and food all in a Gathering of Joy (Kangi-e). Make this a year of change by joining us. Please contact us at wlabt@verizon.net or myself personally at wlabtpres.rick@live.com.
